Training & Conference Room Booking

Volunteering ACT has an attractive and well equipped TRAINING AND CONFERENCE ROOM available at our premises in Canberra Labor Club Community Chambers, Chandler Street (on the Cameron Avenue corner), Belconnen.

The primary purpose of these facilities is to conduct our own training programs for community volunteers and the managers of volunteer programs. We are also happy to discuss ways we can custom-build training and development programs to meet the particular needs of community groups and agencies.

As part of the services that we provide as a Peak body, we are able to make this facility available to our member agencies and also to other community groups using volunteers, at such times as we are not using it. There is also some more limited opportunity for use of the facility by other organisations in our area.

Charges are determined on a cost recovery basis, and as such will be generally lower than commercial costs for similar premises.

The main features of this facility are:

Good capacity and considerable flexibility to accomodate up to:

  • 40 people in "theatre" style seating
  • 30 in "work groups" layout (eg 5 tables of 6 people)
  • 20 in "boardroom" format (ie around a long table)
  • 20 people in an open U layout
Ground floor location with wheelchair access and disability facilities
Equipment that can be provided includes: lectern; electronic and standard whiteboard; video unit and TV monitor; overhead projector.
Urn and cups for tea and coffee (Users provide their own supply of tea, coffee, milk etc unless specific catering arrangements have been made with Volunteering ACT - see below)
Access to adjacent large kitchen area can be provided at a small further charge if required.
Catering can be arranged through Volunteering ACT for provision of Morning Teas, Afternoon Teas and light Lunches at a reasonable cost from a local catering firm. Advanced notice of preferably 5 days is required.
Photocopying and Printing Services can be provided at competitive rates. Reception Services can be provided at a minimal charge.
Telephones: A phone receiver is available in the area immediately adjacent to the Conference Room for local calls and the cost of calls included in the invoice rendered. Incoming phone messages will be received at Reception and message slips can be collected from Reception.

 

Room Hiring Rates

There are two rates of hire currently in operation:

Rate A - Applies Monday to Friday, from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm.
Rate B - Applies from 6.00 pm on Friday to 6.00 pm on Sunday; and also on Public Holidays (includes costs of caretaker service to open, close, set alarms etc outside normal hours)

VACT Member Agencies $66 per day or $11 per hour $88 per day or $13.20 per hour (minimum 4 hour hire)
Non-member Community Group $88 per day or $13.20 per hour $110 per day or $16.50 per hour (minimum 4 hour hire)
Other (including Government and Corporate sector agencies) $110 per day or $16.50 per hour $165 per day or $27.50 per hour (minimum 4 hour hire)
Evening hire for weeknights Monday to Thursday can also be arranged based on the applicable Rate B hourly charge.
