Sara Vassallo - Recipient of the Young Person (under 25 years) Category Award

Sara is an energetic 22 year old who for the past four years has been actively involved as a leader in the Guide and Scout movements.

Sara is a part-time student, completing her Honours Degree in Psychology at ANU, as well as a part-time worker at the National Museum.

Sara has been involved in many fund-raising activities with the Guides, including the 40 Hour famine, Amnesty International and Daffodil Day. In 1999 as a Guide youth member, Sara organised a Christmas party for local senior citizens, providing free transport, lunch and entertainment, which proved highly successful. The event has continued ever since.

As a leader in the guiding movement Sara helps young girls and women to grow into confident, self respecting, responsible community members and has made a huge difference in her community at such a young age.

In 2004 she was presented with an "Encouragement Award" in the Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards.

Sara's community involvement has included:
