Lindell McConnell - Recipient of the Sport and Recreation Category Award

Lindell was involved in the Guide Movement for many years as a young person, after which she moved on to be a much loved Cub Leader. After extensive travel overseas, where she applied her skills and interest in the Cubs, she returned with her family to Canberra.

Lindell has been an active leader in the Lake Tuggeranong Sea Scouts, creating one of the largest cub packs in the ACT. Her pack also has one of the widest range of children with disabilities and also nationalities in the ACT.

In 2006, she was awarded the Silver Koala, the third highest Award in Scouting. In her 30 years as a leader, she has assisted over 500 young people to gain and develop sound skills, including confidence and leadership skills.

Her roles have included administration (Development Officer), manager (Group Leader), teacher (Cub Leader, Canoe and Sailing Instructor), support (Gang Show, Jamboree Contingent Admin, and Cuboree Administrator) and mentor (Personal Leader Advisor).

This year she was Front Office Manager for the ACT Contingent to the Australian Jamboree, Wardrobe Team Leader for the 40th Gang Show, Cub Leader at Lake Tuggeranong Sea Scouts, fundraiser for the World Jamboree Contingent and an Activity Base Leader for the 2008 Cuboree.

Lindell dedicates between 60 and 300 hours a month to the scouting movement. She has shown extraordinary volunteer commitment.
