Quinlan Announces 2005 Sport And Recreation Grants
QUINLAN ANNOUNCES 2005 SPORT AND RECREATION GRANTS
ACT Minister for Sport, Ted Quinlan, today (TUESDAY) presented over $1.8m worth of grants to 118 local sport and recreation organisations who successfully applied for assistance from the 2005 Sport and Recreation Grants Program.
"This grant program is critical to local sport and recreation organisations to assist them to implement new activities, provide better participant experiences and create improved facilities for the community," Mr Quinlan said.
"In total, the Sport and Recreation Grants program puts over $2.4m into the local industry. Today, over $1.8m was provided to a wide range of community organisations, with the majority of remaining funds set aside for special initiatives in priority areas where Government will work hand in hand with the industry.
"Each year some great initiatives flow from the funding assistance this program provides. Numerous facility improvements, IT improvements, participation activities, and management development programs all have their foundation in funding assistance from the ACT Government.
"2005 is no different, with so many worthy projects again getting the nod for funding. These include $20,000 for a multi-purpose facility to the ACT Scout Association, $16,380 for court lighting at Campbell Tennis Club, $9,100 to Dragons Abreast for the purchase of a dragon boat, $1,600 to Folk Dance for the purchase of a computer and $4,600 to the Tuggeranong Dog Training Club for the rejuvenation of training grounds just to name a few."
Our local sport and recreation industry continues to do a great job and makes an immense social and economic contribution to our community. It is pleasing that Government can continue to assist this industry to develop as we all strive to increase levels of physical activity participation in the ACT," Mr Quinlan said.
