The Social Compact
The Social Compact is a statement of understanding about the relationship between the community sector and the ACT Government. It is based on a shared vision of an inclusive community that enables all people to participate and lead purposeful lives. The community sector has an important role to play in meeting the needs and future aspirations of Canberrans.
The Social Compact is a partnership between the community sector and the ACT government
Volunteering ACT Endorses the Social Compact
Volunteering ACT is pleased to be able to provide you with a link to The Social Compact, A partnership between the community sector and the ACT Government.
Volunteering ACT, along with its fellow members of the Peaks Forum, endorses The Social Compact as a positive blueprint for the community sector and the ACT government to work together to provide services to the ACT community.
Volunteering ACT believes that The Social Compact is an important step in moving from a purchaser/provider model of community sector and government relationships. It strengthens the government’s commitment to work in a true partnership with the sector.
The Social Compact is a statement of understanding about the relationship between the community sector and the ACT government and will:
- build common understandings and improve dialogue;
- act as a guide to the way communication and processes are managed by each sector, and to behaviour in the relationship;
- provide a means of drawing attention to and resolving problems in the relationship;
- and
a basis for evaluating and improving how the relationship is working.
Training Forums
With the release of The Social Compact there is a strong emphasis on implementation. Part of that implementation will be two training forums that will be conducted on 17 August and 1 September 2004. These forums will guide community and government sector staff in ways to adopt the principles of The Social Compact.
Topics covered include:
- Making the Compact work for you and your organisation
- Strengthening agencies’ relationships across sectors
- Undertakings made by the community sector and the government in how to move from the purchaser/provider model to a true partnership in providing services to the community.
When and Where:
- 9am-11.30am 17 August 2004, Centre for Teaching and Learning, Stirling
OR - 6.30-9pm 1 September 2004, Majura Community Centre, Dickson
I strongly encourage the attendance of staff and volunteers to enhance the successful implementation of The Social Compact.
